Current Topics
  • See the International Space Station ISS as it silently transits the sky, or even crosses the Moon, Sun, or encounters/occults planets or stars. Transits during twilight make ISS an obvious and easy target to the naked eye.
  • Do not forget to observe your last Transit of Venus on 5/6 June 2012! The black dot of Venus can be seen in front of the sun even using only solar eclipse glasses. In contrary to 2004, there will not be a simultaneous ISS transit, because the ISS will be in continous sunlite for some days and thus does not cast its shadow to a place with the Sun high up in the sky.
  • Try out our E-mail Alert Manager. You first need to register and give your e-mail address; it's free − then you can subscribe to aurora alerts, good ISS passes and Iridium flares, satellites and ISS transiting the Sun or planets, your detailed daily celestial calendar, or simply get warned of the full Moon by e-mail.
  • Zoom into weather satellite images, as if the satellite were above your site.
  • Observe the star chart of your observing site.
CalSky Highlights

  • Explore the eclipses of our solar system! You can see solar and lunar eclipses; or explore how the moons of Jupiter play with their shadows.
  • You can specify your observation site using an interactive interface - using our highly accurate map coordinate transformations, or simply query our geographic database containing 10 million names.
  • Find and see the maximum phase of any solar eclipse from 1900 - 2100 from any place on Earth using our interactive eclipse maps.
  • The more experienced amateur-astronomer will find much, much more information at her or his fingertips - your valuable tool from astronomers.
