Ted McGinley
He is best known for his role as Jefferson D'Arcy on Married with Children from 1991 to 1997. He now plays Charley Shanowski on Hope & Faith; since 2003.
The appearance of Ted McGinley on a show as a main character or recurring guest performer is seen by some television buffs as a sign that a show might be becoming tired. This is because he has joined the cast of popular and enduring series later in their runs, and continued with them as they went into decline. Such shows include Happy Days, The Love Boat, and Dynasty. Some refer to him as "the patron saint of shark jumping" (see jumping the shark). However, it should be noted that McGinley's tenure on Married with Children, his best-known role, lasted much longer than that of David Garrison, his predecessor. On the other hand, as a replacement character, this places him in an additional Jump the Shark category. It should also be noted that his current show, Hope & Faith, is currently in a successful run on ABC.
