The song
"Sometimes" was written by Elofsson and produced by Max Martin. Unlike its up-beat predecessor "...Baby One More Time", "Sometimes" is a more emotional ballad about love and its symptoms as Spears declares "sometimes I run, sometimes I hide, sometimes I'm scared of you". The video included Spears on a beach dancing with a group of other people.
Chart success
Though not nearly as huge a success as "...Baby One More Time", "Sometimes" still proved to fare well on the charts, peaking just outside the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 at #21. On the Top 40 Mainstream and Top 40 Tracks charts, the song peaked in the top 10 at #6 and #9, respectively. The single also became her first Adult Contemporary hit, peaking just outside the top 10 at #11.
Internationally, the song proved to be another success, peaking at #3 in the UK and #2 in Australia.
Controversy
In Spring 2005, Spears and her management were sued because of the writing credits on "Sometimes". Indiana native Steve Wallace pushed a $150,000 lawsuit, claiming he was the one who wrote the song.
Charts
"Sometimes" was ranked #86 on the Billboard Hot 100 Year-End Charts (1999)
