Slash Records

Slash Records is a
record label started in
1978 by Bob Biggs. Slash started as a m
fanzine in
1977. It was one of the first
zines devoted to the
punk scene. Its first cover featuring
Dave Vanian of
The Damned and it regularly covered such L.A. bands as
The Screamers and
Nervous Gender. Based in
Los Angeles, Slash contributed greatly to the promotion of the music scene there and, with relatively wide distribution for a
punk zine, brought the L.A. scene to the attention of the rest of the world outside of the city.
The magazine stopped in 1980. A subsidiary Ruby Records was started in 1981. The label was sold to London Records in 1986. From 1982 until 1996, releases from Slash Records were distributed by Warner Bros. Records.
