Lydian language

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Lydian was an Indo-European language, one of the Anatolian languages, that was spoken in the city-state of Lydia in Anatolia, present day Turkey. It became extinct around the first century BC and was replaced by Greek. The language is known from a few brief inscriptions. Lydian had its own alphabet that was closely related to the Greek alphabet.

The Lydian mode is also one of the modes of the major scale, which were all named after ancient Greek tribes.
