KTRK TV is a television station in Houston, Texas, affiliated with the American Broadcasting Company network and owned by The Walt Disney Company. Its transmitter is located in Missouri_City, Texas.

History

It signed on in 1954 as KXYZ-TV. The letters were changed to KTRK later on, and became the inspiration for a character on a kids show, Kitterik. Early programs involved a heavy emphasis on local flavor and reflected themes of the day. The station, located off Bissonnet Street in Southwest Houston, became the first domed structure in town, preceding the Astrodome by just over ten years. Both projects used the same architect, Hermon Lloyd.

This show introduced local programs, including...

-Cadet Don: A Space themed adventure program for children, focusing on the exploits of an interstellar adventurer and the locations he visited.

-Dialing for Dollars: A game show of sorts where a viewer would be phoned by the host and would win a cash prize by answering questions.

CBS Anchor Dan Rather also got his start in Television as a Reporter for KTRK in 1959.

Personality

Marvin Zindler is the station's most famous personality. The investigative unit ("13 Undercover"), featuring Wayne Dolcefino, is responsible for a number of civic investigations and consumer investigations as well.

Newscasts

The station's newscasts, Eyewitness News, are the overall highest rated in the region and among the highest rated in the country. It has been in the number one position for over thirty years.
