The song
"I Love Rock 'N Roll" was written by Hooker and Merrill, and the video for the song was again sexually-powered. This single was not released in the US. It is a cover version of a song originally performed by Joan Jett, which hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982.
Spears has publicly admitted the original song to be one of her favorites. Ironically, when promoting the single's release she infamously mistakingly attributed the song to Pat Benatar instead of Jett.
The song's theme is self-explanotary and features Spears declaring her new found love for rock and roll and she proclaims "I love rock and roll".
Chart success
"ILRNR" remains to be Spears' biggest international flop to date, which probably means it's a good thing that the track was not released as a single in the US. This, however, may sound worse than the situation actually was, being that Spears' 'biggest flop' could easily be a hit by many other artists' standards; the single peaked within the top 20 in the UK and Australia and top 40 in Canada.
