The racial makeup of the county is 95.52% White, 2.94% Black or African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.16% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. 0.83% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.There are 7,238 households out of which 30.30% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.30% are married couples living together, 10.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.90% are non-families. 25.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.44 and the average family size is 2.90.
