The racial makeup of the county is 86.44% White, 11.80% Black or African American, 0.30% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.21% from other races, and 0.89% from two or more races. 0.90% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.There are 11,713 households out of which 31.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.80% are married couples living together, 11.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.60% are non-families. 25.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.47 and the average family size is 2.96.
